Delighted to hear one of our Colleagues, Victoria Weinrich-Cooke has won the ACL Conference Cup, awarded for attaining the highest grade in the year. Victoria Graduated in January from the ACL Training course, in which she gained an award for her outstanding achievement during the course. The Conference Cup took place in Late April and was presented by Erica Bedford, a Deputy Costs Judge, Barrister and Costs lawyer.
The ACL training course provides a structured training course covering all aspects of costs law and practice. Their main priority is to ensure the high standards of costs lawyers through an independent regulator, known as the Costs Lawyers Standards Board (CLSB).
Their aim is to facilitate and promote the exchange of ideas and information with other legal bodies, and the ACL is recognised as an important contributor to law reform relating to costs law and procedures.
The ACL is the representative body for Costs Lawyers – regulated legal professionals who specialise in the law relating to legal costs. The ACL promotes the interests of Costs Lawyers and lobbies on their behalf and the association is committed to the education and support of the Costs Lawyers profession. They are the only professional body providing recognised training and education in costs law.
The course was a great value to Victoria as she studied diligently for two years, allowing her to take the opportunity to focus on some niche areas of costs law which is not always possible in her busy role as Head of Costs. While studying the course, Victoria loved the research aspect of the qualification and the portfolio she put together allowed her to showcase her recent advocacy in the Supreme Court.
